Subcarpați – the internationally acclaimed band will perform live at Brixton Jamm as part or Romanian Knights – events series organised in collaboration with Gazeta Românească.
The Guardian reviewed Subcarpați as: ‘an explosive mixture of old and new. It’s an eclectic combination that brings together melancholy Romanian folk songs, Romanian unity songs, traditional instruments and the rhythms of trip-hop, dub-step, hip-hop and dance-hall.’
Subcarpați is believed to be the modern-day Dacians figures, who have channelled the ancient spirit of Romanian’s lore and created a sound unique to themselves alone, which they are sharing with everyone, regardless of background or believes. This couldn’t be more true considering the band’s zero-tolerance to anything commercially linked to their music. Their albums are free to download from www.subcarpati.com and despite public demand they have never commissioned nor sold merchandise at their shows.
The latest addition to the crew, Madalina Paval will enchant the audience with her astonishing voice and beautiful presence. MC Vali brings the lyrical tightness as Bean lets loose his usual flow and flute solos which will give you shivers down your spine. DJ Power on Vinyl provides the scratches and cuts with Vladimir on drums, all to the backdrop of VJ Andri’s trippy visuals. Having featured on a number of the band’s sample tracks, Romanian freestyle don Aforic will also take the stage for crowd-gone-wild heaviness.
