We are thrilled to announce that the star of our National Day Gala Concert is the outstanding Teodora Gheorghiu, the revelation of this year’s Glyndebourne Festival.

The acclaimed soprano will be joined by pianist Jonathan Aner for a programme of pure musical joy including songs by George Enescu and Adrian Pop and timeless operatic arias.

The Gala Recital is presented in partnership with the Romanian Embassy in the UK and is part of the Enescu Concerts Series, jointly organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and the Enescu Society.

After a much acclaimed British debut in the role of Sophie within the new production of Strauss’ ‘Der Rosenkavalier‘ at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival this year, Teodora Gheorghiu returns to England to offer a Gala Recital on the occasion of the National Day of Romania.

Praised by Rupert Christiansen in The Telegraph and by Andrew Clements in The Guardian for her astonishing Glyndebourne performance, Teodora Gheorghiu is compared to a long line of exquisite Romanian sopranos who, along the years, graced the British top stages. Teodora Gheorghiu’s musical destiny was directly influenced by the great Jose Carreras who persuaded her to change flute for canto and supported her first steps in the world of opera.

Aged only 25, she was already invited to perform at Vienna Staatsoper where, in her own words, she experienced ‘the pure joy’ of working with opera superstars and being recognized as one of the world’s most exciting young talents.

Pianist Jonathan Aner is well known for this soloist career and has performed with Israel’s leading orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, but also in Germany, Italy and China, but also was described by Frankfurter Rundschau as ‘a chamber musician par excellence‘ and is a member of the Brillaner Duo and of the Oberon Trio.

Jonathan Aner performed recitals and chamber music concerts in such prestigious concert halls as the Berliner Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall, or Wallace Collection in London and has worked closely with pianists Murray Perahia and András Schiff. Since 2010 Jonathan Aner is a professor of chamber music at the Academy of Music ‘Hanns Eisler‘ in Berlin.
