Horia Văcărescu joins Oberon Symphony Orchestra for Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole concert at St James Church.
Born to an established musical family in Bucharest, Romania, Horia Văcărescu had his first violin lesson when he was three from a colleague of his father, a violinist in the State Opera House. The young Horia progressed quickly, and when he was only six he made his first public appearance. A few years later he started lessons with Paul Ratz, a prominent violinist and concertmaster with the same orchestra, and when he was fifteen he performed for the first time in the company of a symphony orchestra.
He attended the George Enescu Music College and the National Music University of Bucharest where he had several teachers, however Ratz continued to be his mentor. After this he moved to London where he worked for a while with Romanian violinist Eugene Sarbu, after which he received a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music with Levon Chilingirian.
The Oberon Symphony Orchestra is a dynamic, London-based ensemble of young professional and semi-professional musicians.
They are passionate about performing a wide range of classical music to the highest standard while making our rehearsals and performances as much fun for the players as possible. Every concert is preceded by three intensive rehearsals spread over the course of a week at the beautiful St James’s Church, Sussex Gardens (two minutes’ walk from Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate station) and is followed by celebrations well into the early hours.
