We are cycling 1529 miles in one day for Smiles Foundation because we are building new homes for the families of Rapa.
A small community of young families in Rapa, near Oradea, NW Romania are struggling to cope in difficult conditions. There is no running water and only a sporadic electricity supply to the village.
Their homes are built with wood frames and dried mud, with make-shift roofing. Many of the children have scratches and bites on their hands and faces because the rats can get in at night. The Smiles Foundation are planning to build 10 new houses in the village, at the cost of £5000 each.
We have already started work on a hygiene unit which – once we have accessed the water supply – will provide showers and toilets.
The officers and staff of Cumbria Constabulary are hoping to raise enough to fund one of these houses by cycling the equivalent of the 1529 miles from Police HQ in Penrith to Rapa in Romania during one day. Please support our efforts by donating through this page.
Every single penny donated will go directly to the building costs.
